In recent years, western developed countries, mainly including Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane have done a lot of work in the research and development of flaxseed as a functional food. Recently, products with high purity and standardized lignans that meet therapeutic requirements have also been marketed for use in capsules, tablets, breakfast cereals and fast food additives. Other products, such as nutritionally functional super-concentrated emulsions containing omega-3 fatty acids, soluble food fibers and lignans, and whole milk beverages, are increasingly available on the market(Diindolylmethane).
Lignans can inhibit estrogen-induced tumor growth by competitively binding to estrogen receptors and affecting the metabolism of steroid-like hormones. Adlercreutz et al. showed that lignans can promote the production of intestinal lipids (ED) and intestinal glycol (Flax Seed Extract). When the concentration of intestinal glycol in plasma is 30-70nmol/L, it can inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cells and reduce the size and probability of breast tumors. Waters et al. demonstrated that EL inhibited estrogen-stimulated RNA synthesis. When Thompson et al. fed flaxseed or SDG to mice, the tumor volume and the incidence of new tumor formation decreased significantly, and the tumor size was negatively correlated with the secretion of mammalian lignans in urine. Mice at the early stage of tumor were fed with pure sdg1.5mg /d, 3-Indolylcarbinol which reduced the number of tumors and significantly increased the excretion of ED and EL in urine.
