Introduction to 3-indolycarbinol



Indole-3-Methanol is a hormone used to stimulate plant growth, which is widely used in agricultural production.
Properties of 3-indolycarbinol
Indoleacetic acid is an organic substance. The pure product Purple Sweet Potato Powder is colorless phylloid crystal or crystalline powder. Rose in light. Melting point 165-166  (168-170 ). Soluble in anhydrous ethanol, ethyl acetate, dichloroethane, soluble in ether and acetone. Insoluble in benzene, toluene, gasoline and chloroform. Insoluble in water, Indole-3-Carbinol its aqueous solution can be decomposed by ultraviolet light, but it is stable for visible light. Its sodium salt and potassium salt are more stable than acid itself, and are very soluble in water. It is easy to decarboxylate to 3-methylindole. It has duality to plant growth. Different parts of plant have different sensitivity to it. Generally, root is bigger than bud than stem. Different plants have different sensitivity to it.

3-Indolylcarbinol was produced by the reaction of indole, formaldehyde and potassium cyanide at 150 , 0.9-1mpa, and then hydrolyzed under the action of potassium hydroxide. Or by the reaction of indole with glycolic acid. In a 3L stainless steel autoclave, add 270g (4.1mol) 85% in potassium hydroxide, 351g (3mol) indole, and then slowly add 360g (3.3mol) 70% aqueous solution of hydroxyacetic acid. Heat to 250  and stir for 18h. Cool to below 50 , add 500ml of water, and stir at 100  for 30min to dissolve potassium indole 3-acetate. Cool to 25 , pour the autoclave material into water, and add water to the total volume of 3L. Extract with 500ml ether, separate water layer, acidify with hydrochloric acid at 20-30 , and precipitate indole-3-acetic acid. Filter, wash in cold water, dry in dark, and obtain 455-490g of the product.
